SMARTQUIT 3.0
Informed by prior research findings and user evaluations of prototypes of potential app features for SmartQuit 3.0, I created prototypes for new features to develop in the next app iteration. We decided to use a photo storytelling method to simplify the ACT exercises for users and to help them visualize the techniques. Additionally, we decided to add an introduction to explain the program in the app and how to use it. Throughout the app, we decided to add a persona of Nancy, a peer quit coach who will guide the user through their quit journey. We worked with students from UW's HCDE program (Elsa Ho, Anne Zheng, Mike Northcutt, and Ritesh Bhagat), Professor Julie Kientz, 2Morrow, and a UX group to design and revise these features.
SMARTQUIT 3.0 INTRO
Introduction to SmartQuit 3.0 explaining how to use the app and the requirements for completing the evidence-based program.
SOCIAL SUPPORT FEATURE
This social support feature includes an introduction explaining to users the importance of social support, how to choose someone, and how to use their support for quitting smoking. It includes three types of support - advice from smokers who have quit using SmartQuit, Quit Coach, and your own support circle.
Smartquit personas
We created a variety of personas for a character that would guide users through SmartQuit 3.0. We then asked for user input to see which one would be the most helpful during their quit journey.
NANCY, YOUR PEER QUIT COACH
Based on user input, we chose Nancy, a peer coach, to be the persona behind SmartQuit 3.0. She was a former smoker and is now devoting her time to guiding users through SmartQuit 3.0 to aid their quit journey.
URGE MONSTER EXERCISE
A storytelling method for explaining ACT exercises. This exercise teaches smokers to drop the struggle with their urges, as represented by the "urge monster" and focus on their life values instead.
